ABOUT ME

IMG_6320.jpg

My name is Em Kane (prounouns they/them/theirs). I am a white, queer, trans psychotherapist. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and received my Master’s in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley. I have over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have experience providing psychodynamic, relational and behavioral therapies such as CBT, narrative, and Motivational Interviewing. I have a particular passion for working with adolescents and adults who are in the process of exploring and understanding their sexual orientation and gender identities.

I am dedicated to the pursuit of an equitable world by working to dismantle white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, ableism, and capitalism. In my practice I provide an accepting and empathic space for people of all identities, in particular LGBTQIA+ individuals, Black, Indigenous, people of color, immigrants, women, and those engaged in kink/BDSM and nontraditional relationships.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered, rooted in anti-racist practice, and trauma-informed. I believe that therapy should be a space free of judgment. You are the expert on your own life and together we can build an authentic relationship as we work together towards your healing and joy.

Outside of my work as a therapist I enjoy swimming, snuggling with my senior dog, and watching drag performances.
